Plum Skinny is a diet pill manufactured in the United States by Doctor’s Blend. In addition to distributing diet pills and other health and wellness products under its own brand name, Doctor’s Blend also allows other companies/individuals to distribute its formulations under their brand names.

Supplements that can be re-branded in this way are known as white label products and they are more common than you may think. A lot of supplements that are being marketed on Amazon and eBay are white-label products. So are some of the supplements you can buy over-the-counter in pharmacies, supermarkets, and certain smaller stores.

Due to the fact the company allows people to sell its formulations under their chosen brand names, Doctors Blend Plum Skinny could have any number of clones.

I found only found one (HerbShop International Plum Skinny) but there could be many more. Although this is primarily a review of Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny, it is also applicable to the HerbShop International version and any  other diet pill clones because the only difference is the name on the label. The pills inside the bottles are exactly the same.

Promised Benefits

According to the Doctor’s Blend website, Plum Skinny does five things:

  • Suppresses appetite
  • Boosts metabolism
  • Increases energy
  • Improves mood
  • Assists fat burning

How Does Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny Work (For Weight Loss)?

Bottle of Plum Skinny Diet PillsDoctor’s Blend Plum Skinny is a thermogenic fat burner. Supplements that fall into this category speed up metabolism by increasing thermogenesis.

Thermogenesis is the process that generates heat within the body. By tweaking your body’s inner thermostat and causing you to become a little warmer, thermogenic fat burners cause you to lose extra energy as heat.

If this is a hard concept to grasp, think back to the last time you did some running or any other physical activity that made you break out in a sweat. You warmed up because exercise increases thermogenesis. So do certain natural compounds, including the catechin antioxidants in green tea. These natural thermogens increase your energy expenditure during exercise, helping you to burn extra calories. They also help you to burn extra calories while you not placing your body under exertion. Thermogenic fat burners can even help you to burn extra calories while you are asleep.

Although increasing your daily calorie expenditure is a good way to lose weight faster, it won’t help you if you fail to keep your calorie intake under control. Like all diet pills, thermogenic fat burners have to be used alongside a low-calorie diet.

Reducing your calorie intake generally causes you to experience hunger. That’s why most diet pills contain ingredients to keep hunger under control.

Unfortunately, although Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny is designed to control hunger, its hunger-suppressing potency may not be as good as certain alternatives.

Will Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny improve your mood? After looking at the ingredient profile, that seems unlikely but the formulation contains a decent dose of caffeine, so it should be capable of providing some people with extra energy.

Things to Bear in Mind

Like other weight management products, Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny is a supplement. It’s important to understand what a supplement is and never to see any form of supplement as a magic pill.

The word “supplement” refers to something you get or use in addition to something else. For instance, Some people work two jobs to “supplement” their income.

Diet pills and other weight loss supplements, supplement the efforts you are already making by controlling your diet.

In this case, it’s important not to see Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny as a product that provides an excuse not to try and eat healthy foods. The pills will work best if you use them alongside a healthy diet that contains nutritious foods that are low in fat and sugar.

Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny Ingredient Potential

Vitamins & Minerals

The formulation contains three popular B vitamins – B6, B12, and Niacin (Vitamin B3).

B Vitamins help your body to get energy from your food. Most good energy drinks contain this trio and generally have a few more.

Lots of diet pills have B vitamins in them too. Their presence can help prevent diet-related fatigue. That’s probably why Doctor’s Blend is including them here.

Niacin also offers a few other useful benefits. For one thing, it has the potential to lower cholesterol. It’s can also improve circulation. It achieves this by relaxing the walls of the blood vessels. This allows them to dilate. The process is called vasodilation.

Chromium is another nutrient that’s common to many diet pill formulations. It’s popular because it helps regulate insulin and blood sugar levels.

Supplements that contain chromium may prevent cravings for sugar and carbs by preventing the blood sugar crashes that cause them.

Some research suggests chromium may also reduce normal hunger, but this is an area that requires further research. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/18715218/

Proprietary Blend (457 mg)

This is where things become complicated. The Plum Skinny label states the proprietary blend is 457 mg. It also states 90 mg of its content is green tea, while a further 140 mg is caffeine anhydrous.

So we know 230 mg of the proprietary blend is green tea and caffeine. That leaves 227 mg, to account for and it consists of unknown amounts of five ingredients.

Green Tea

Green TeaGreen Tea is a good ingredient. Research proves it increases metabolism and thermogenesis.

However, the dose is probably too low. A lot of competing supplements offer much higher doses.

In the study I linked to above, the participants were given green tea extracts that provided 90 mg epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny provides 90 mg of green tea extract, but the label makes it clear the extract is only 45% EGCG. That’s less than half the amount the study participants received and they were getting 90 mg of EGCG three times per day. Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny is providing 40.5 mg of EGCG, once per day.

Caffeine

The caffeine inclusion rate is more acceptable. It’s high enough to provide most people with an energy boost but it’s not high enough to cause the average person to experience side effects. If you can drink a double espresso, you should be able to use Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny without any caffeine-related problems. Just don’t make the mistake of drinking one shortly before or after taking the pills.

In addition to being an energy provider, caffeine is also a thermogenic fat burner.

However, the abilities of caffeine can vary from one person to the next, depending on how much caffeine you are used to. For instance, people who have developed a high tolerance of caffeine may find the 140 mg Plum Skinny provides, offers them no benefits at all.

Mucuna Pruriens Seed Extract

Mucuna pruriens (velvet bean) is not a common addition to diet pills. However, it’s often added to bodybuilding supplements because it appears to help optimize testosterone.

Garcinia Cambogia Fruit Extract

The rind of this fruit provides hydroxycitric acid (HCA). It’s a popular diet pill ingredient that has a good reputation as an appetite suppressant and may also discourage fat cell formation.

To be effective garcinia cambogia extracts need to be at least 50% HCA. Doctor’s Blend fails to divulge the potency of the extract it’s using in Plum Skinny.

Bioperine

Bioperine is high potency black pepper extract. It’s standardized to be at least 95% piperine.

Normal black pepper extracts are generally around 7% piperine. Perhaps a little more, perhaps a little less.

Bioperine is a very popular supplement ingredient because piperine enhances ingredient absorption.

Dried Plum Fruit

This diet pill is called Plum Skinny, so you would expect plum to be a very useful ingredient. It’s not. This is the first time I’ve ever seen plum extract in a weight loss supplement and I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the last.

Plums are a healthy fruit to eat. They are nutritious, provide antioxidants, and are an excellent source of fiber. Some people eat prunes to ease constipation.

Even if most of the proprietary blend is dried plum fruit, it won’t be enough to offer any tangible benefits.

Capsimax

Chili Peppers ( A Source of Capsaicin)This is a good ingredient. In fact, it’s one of the best so it’s a great pity there is no way to know if Plum Skinny provides an effective dose.

Capsimax is a brand of capsicum extract. The capsaicin it provides supports fat loss by boosting metabolism and thermogenesis. It’s also good for suppressing appetite.

Normal capsicum extracts can do these things too, but they can be hard on the stomach and may cause some people to experience heartburn. Capsimax uses a special slow-release technology that prevents digestive issues by not releasing the capsaicin until it reaches the intestines. http://omniactives.com/product/capsimax/

How to Use Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny

Okay, first things first. If you are vegan or vegetarian, Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny won’t be suitable. It has gelatin in the capsule shell. The formulation also contains rice flour, as a filler. So, if you have a rice allergy, it will be equally unsuitable.

The dose is one capsule per day, taken with at least 8-10 oz of water.

According to the bottle, it’s best to take the capsule before exercise. However, due to the caffeine content, Doctor’s Blend states it’s unwise to take the capsule late in the day.

Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny contains caffeine. Each pill contains a similar amount of caffeine as a double espresso.

If you can handle one of those, you shouldn’t have any problem with the caffeine in Plum Skinny.

However, if you usually find even low doses of caffeine may you feel jittery and unwell, Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny wont be suitable for you.

Health Considerations

If you are pregnant or nursing a child, please don’t take any kind of supplement without getting clearance from your doctor first.

If you have an existing medical condition of any kind at all, it would also be unwise to use supplements without checking with your doctor first.

Certain supplement ingredients can present interaction issues when combined with medication. It doesn’t matter if the medication has been prescribed by a doctor, a dentist, or another medical professional. If you are taking medication, don’t use it with supplements without asking a doctor first.

Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny Customer Reviews?

Customer reviews are thin on the ground. I couldn’t find enough of them to provide a good indication of how well the product works.

Plum Skinny Customer Reviews

Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny Cause Side Effects

Three aren’t enough customer reviews available to provide an accurate indication of the risk of side effects.

One customer says the pills made her throw up. She also mentions a rash.

If you are thinking of using Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny, it may be a good idea to discuss your intentions with a doctor first.

Where to Buy Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny

If you live in the USA, you may be able to find a local supplier, but chances are high that you will need to buy Plum Skinny online.

A few US online stores appear to stock this supplement. It’s also available via Amazon.com.

If you live in the UK or Europe, buying via Amazon.com may be the best option but the shipping costs will add a further $7 or more to the price.

When you buy via Amazon, Plum Skinny costs $37.90 (information correct at the time of this review). If you live in the UK, the shipping costs bring the price up to just over $45 (£34/€40).

That’s quite expensive for a supplement such as this and there is no money-back guarantee.

Doctor’s Blend Plum Skinny Review: Diet Pill Ninja Conclusion

The Diet Pill Ninja: Honorable Diet Pill ReviewsIf it were possible to buy Plum Skinny for $10 a bottle, it may be worth a shot. It’s too expensive for a diet pill that has such a weak formulation and hardly any customer reviews.

As far as the vitamins and minerals go, there’s nothing to complain about. The inclusion rates are okay. Unfortunately, the proprietary blend lets things down.

As I already mentioned in the ingredient evaluation section of this review, the caffeine inclusion rate is okay, but the green tea inclusion rate is not. It’s too low.

Plum Skinny would have greater fat-burning potential if the mucuna pruriens and dried plum were removed. Neither one is going to add any benefit to the formulation and their omission would leave more room for the other, more useful, ingredients such as green tea and Capsimax.

The dosing schedule is an issue too. The formulation would need a far greater potency to allow Plum Skinny any credibility as a diet pill you only take once per day.

The lack of a money-back guarantee does not work in this supplement’s favor either. Nor do the additional shipping charges. It’s possible to buy much better diet pills for the same amount of money or less – ones that do have a money-back guarantee.

Capsiplex: A Good Alternative to Plum Skinny

Box of Capsiplex Fat BurnerLike, Plum Skinny, Capsiplex contains Capsimax. The big difference is, it provides a decent dose. Each Capsiplex capsule provides 500 mg of Capsimax. Plum Skinny doesn’t even have 500 mg of active ingredients.

Capsiplex has a lot of good customer reviews. It doesn’t appear to work for everyone, but that’s true of all the best diet pills. Capsiplex works for most people, though, and the manufacturer offers a 60-day money-back guarantee.

A 30-day supply of Capsiplex is also generally cheaper than a 30-day supply of Plum Skinny so the price works in its favor too.

One of the good things about Capsiplex is the special deals that are available on the manufacturer’s website. When you order two boxes of Capsiplex because you get a third box free of charge.

That’s not bad at all but it gets better because it’s also possible to get 5 boxes of Capsiplex for the price of 3.
