Not for the first time, I find myself beginning a Grenade Thermo Detonator review. I’ve reviewed this product several times before for clients but hadn’t originally planned on reviewing this product on my own site.

However, a few people have contacted me asking me to do a review page for this interesting-looking Grenade fat burner, so… here we go again.

What Is Grenade Thermo Detonator?

Grenade Thermo Detonator is primarily a fat burner but the formulation is also high in stimulants so it may also function well as an energy-providing supplement.

Unfortunately, the supplement’s ability to increase energy is likely to vary from one person to the next. The human body can adjust to the regular presence of stimulants. This makes them less effective.

As well as boosting energy, caffeine and other stimulants can also boost metabolism and thermogenesis, helping you to burn fat. Again though, these benefits can diminish as tolerance increases.

A lot of manufacturers produce supplements that are wholly reliant on stimulants for fat burning. The makers of Grenade Thermo Detonator are not guilty of this. The formulation contains green tea and cayenne as well. That’s great because they are two of the best natural fat burners in the world.

So, although the supplement’s ability to boost energy may be questionable for people who have a high tolerance for stimulants, it should still be able to retain good fat-burning capabilities.

However, you don’t need to use Grenade Thermo Detonator to take advantage of good fat burners like cayenne and green tea. Many alternative products contain one, the other, or both.

At the end of the review, I’m going to suggest an alternative product you could use instead. One that has a money-back guarantee.

The company behind Grenade Thermo Detonator does not offer a guarantee. That means you will have blown your money if you are not happy with the results or have to stop using the supplement because it makes you feel unwell.

Who Should Use Grenade Thermo Detonator?

To be honest, for reasons I will explain further later on in this review, I don’t believe anyone should be using Grenade Thermo Detonator. It contains an ingredient I would never allow into my own body and, if I am scared or uncomfortable about using something myself, I would never suggest other people use it either.

However, Grenade Thermo Detonator is a popular fat burner and many people who do use it are happy with the results. Not surprisingly, given the amount of stimulants the supplement contains, there are plenty of reports of side effects as well and some of them make alarming reading.

This is a product that’s best suited to people who like to train hard and have experience using stimulant-driven supplements. The problem is, people who have built up a high tolerance may find Grenade Thermo Detonator offers little or no benefit at all.

On the other hand, people who are not used to consuming stimulants may find using Grenade Thermo Detonator causes them to experience jitters, nausea, headaches, and other unpleasant side effects.

If all you need is a supplement to help you to lose weight, Grenade Thermo Detonator is probably going to be a very poor choice.

Why Grenade Thermo Detonator May Not Work the Same for Everyone

I’m going to take a closer look at customer feedback later in this review but will show you a couple of comments now as well to help you understand how individual responses to the supplement may vary.

This review says Grenade Thermo Detonator does not work

This customer complains about side effects

This customer loves Grenade Thermo Detonator for weight loss and energy too.

As you can see, the first comment shares the experience of someone who found the supplement “made no difference” to their workout. The review does not mention weight loss because the reviewer appears to be primarily interested in upping their performance in the gym.

It seems likely that this person may have a high tolerance of stimulants. Hence no noticeable energy rush.

The second comment is by someone who had unpleasant side effects. Perhaps this person does not normally ingest stimulants.

The third comment is by a Grenade user who reports favourable results. I’m not a doctor but I’m familiar with diet pill ingredients and the things they can do and, in my opinion, the third comment probably represents the experience of a person with a moderate tolerance of stimulants. If so, the same person may find the energy benefits diminish over time.

A Look at the Company Behind Grenade Thermo Detonator

“Grenade” is the trading name of Grenade (UK) Limited. It’s a British company based in the West Midlands.

Grenade (UK) Limited was founded in 2010 by Alan and Juliet Barratt. The couple wanted to “create an iconic weight-loss product and become the brand within sports nutrition.

Thermo Detonator was the company’s first product. The couple chose the name “Grenade” because a friend who tried the original formulation said it was explosive, like a grenade.

This comment also inspired the supplement’s unique bottle that’s specially manufactured to resemble and hand grenade.

Possibly in part due to celebrity ties and endorsements, the Grenade brand went from strength to strength and presently offers several other supplements, including Grenade protein bars, protein shakes, and energy drinks.

Grenade (UK) Limited is reputable company that excels at creating creative marketing campaigns.

However, although I cannot knock the company, I think adding bitter orange to the Thermo Detonator formulation was a questionable move.

Promised Benefits

According to the Grenade website, Thermo Detonator will help you to “declare war on fat” by doing the following things:

  • Improving  your motivation and focus
  • Giving you the drive you need to get things done
  • Boosting your energy levels
  • Suppressing your appetite and cravings
  • Boosting your metabolism naturally

According to Grenade, it will do these thing  without causing jitters or caffeine crash.

How Does Grenade Thermo Detonator Work (For Weight Loss)?

Grenade Thermo Detonator primarily helps you to lose weight by boosting your metabolism. It’s also designed to make weight loss easier by suppressing hunger and cravings.

As with all weight management supplements, you need to use Grenade Thermo Detonator alongside diet and exercise.

Diet is the most important factor. If you continue to bombard your body with excess calories every day you will continue to be at risk of further weight gain.

By speeding up metabolism, the ingredients in Grenade Thermo Detonator raise your resting metabolic rate. This causes you to burn extra calories. You burn extra calories while you are resting and extra calories while working out. This enables you to burn more fat than you would be able to burn by diet and exercise alone.

Things to Bear in Mind

Like other weight management products, Grenade Thermo Detonator is a supplement. It’s important to understand what a supplement is and never to see any supplement as a magic pill.

The word “supplement” refers to something you get or use in addition to something else. For instance, Some people work two jobs to “supplement” their income.

Diet pills and other weight loss supplements, supplement the efforts you are already making by controlling your diet.

How to Use Grenade Thermo Detonator

The standard dose is two capsules, two times per day. It’s important to take the capsules with sufficient water, when your stomach is empty.

You take the first two capsules first thing in the morning and follow them up with two more capsules 30 minutes before eating lunch.

Alternatively, you can take one of the doses just before training.

New users are advised to take half the normal dose for the first seven days. That’s one capsule two times per day. It’s highly advisable to follow this advice because it will allow you to check your tolerance, see if any side effects occur and, if they do, discover how bad they are.

Grenade Thermo Detonator Supplement Facts

Green Tea (500 mg)

Green tea is an excellent inclusion. Many of the best fat burning supplements have it and Grenade Thermo Detonator provides it in a decent amount.

Green tea provides a low dose of caffeine, which is a proven metabolism booster. Caffeine further supports weight loss by increasing thermogenesis but the amount of caffeine green tea provides is unlikely to be sufficient to have much affect on the body.

Research shows the fat-busting capabilities of green tea are actually due to the presence of unique antioxidants called green tea catechins. The most important of which appears to be epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG).

Bitter Orange Powder (420 mg)

OrangesEarlier in this review, I said Grenade Thermo Detonator contains an ingredient I have concerns about. This is it.

Bitter orange powder comes from the peels of a specific type of citrus fruit (citrus aurantium). The peel contains several active compounds the most important one is synephrine.

Synephrine is a powerful stimulant that places the body into a state of fight or flight.

Fight or flight is a stress response the body initiates in times of danger. It causes numerous chemical, hormonal, and physical changes in the body that provide it with extra strength for fighting and greater speed for running away.

These abilities are partly due to an adrenalin rush.

Fight or flight also suppresses appetite to spare you the distraction of hunger. If you’ve ever felt too stressed to eat, you can probably imagine how this can work.

However, maintaining a state of fight or flight for expended periods of time is hard on the body. It involves elevations in blood pressure that place unnecessary strain on the heart.

If you want to find out more about the dangers of prolonging the fight or flight stress response, you can do so by reading this article published on the Harvard University website: https://academic.oup.com/ajcn/article/70/6/1040/4729179

During my years as a diet pill reviewer, I have found many reliable sources that warn against using this ingredient. I also found one scientific paper that suggests bitter orange is safe. Only the one though.

I don’t like this ingredient and I never will. It appears on a WebMD list of 12 hazardous supplement ingredients and ResearchGate provides an opportunity to obtain an article that deals with its “suspected” adverse reactions.

However, the results of an in-depth clinical review of several studies suggest synephrine is safe when used alone and when used alongside caffeine.

The review also stresses there does not appear to be any significant adverse cardiovascular effects. I don’t trust it because the review authors have worked as consultants for a company that markets bitter orange extracts. That could make them biased.

Even if you forget about the possibility of biased input, the clinical review ends by stating “a need exists for additional well-controlled, long term human efficacy and safety studies involving p-synephrine/bitter orange extract.”

Here is a link to the study, if you want to research this matter further on your own: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3444973/

And here is a link to an article at Healthline that provides information on bitter orange dosage and safety information: https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/bitter-orange#dosage

The article suggests low doses of bitter orange may be safe if you don’t exceed 98 mg per day. Grenade Thermo Detonator provides 420 mg per dose. That’s 820 mg per day (via 4 capsules).

Caffeine (225 mg)

Caffeine helps you to lose weight by boosting metabolism and thermogenesis. Lots of studies show this. Here is a link to one of them: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/2333832/

Caffeine also boosts energy. It’s one of the most commonly used stimulants in the world. Caffeine is present in most energy drinks. It’s also possible to buy caffeine pills to boost energy but the most common way to get caffeine into the body is probably by drinking coffee.

Many diet pills have caffeine in them. For obvious reasons, a lot of pre-workout supplements contain caffeine too. Most people are glad of some extra energy when they are exercising.

Although it often gets a bad rep, there is nothing wrong with caffeine. Most people can enjoy its benefits (in sensible doses) without worrying about side effects such as jitters and nausea.

Nevertheless, some people have a low tolerance to caffeine and have to avoid it because even low doses make them feel unwell. These people are few and far between.

For the rest of us, caffeine is okay in low to moderate doses but it’s unwise to consume more than 400 mg of caffeine per day. (Caffeine Information Article at the Mayo Clinic Website)

Four hundred milligrams of caffeine is around four cups of standard coffee per day. Two standard doses of Grenade Thermo Detonator will provide a little 12% more so it would be unwise to use the pills alongside other sources of caffeine such as coffee and energy drinks.

Many supplements provide much higher doses of caffeine than Grenade Thermo Detonator does. If you can drink three espressos (77 mg caffeine per shot) back to back, a couple of times a day, the caffeine in Grenade Thermo Detonator should not present any problems.

However, with long-term use, the benefits you receive from caffeine will probably diminish. If you are used to consuming caffeine, you may feel little or no benefit at all but we are going over old ground here. I’ve already explained this earlier on in this review.

The big problem with this formulation is caffeine is not the only stimulant. It’s paired with a high dose of bitter orange. You need to bear that in mind if you are thinking about using this particular Grenade fat-burning supplement.

Cayenne (200 mg)

Red Chili PeppersThis is a good ingredient provided in a respectable dose. It’s a very worthwhile inclusion. There’s not much to grumble about here.

Cayenne provides capsaicin. It’s a plant compound that helps defend the pepper from hungry insects by making it too fiery for them to eat. We humans are a different kettle of fish and often exploit its heat in curries, chilli con carne, and similar spicy foods.

Capsaicin aids weight loss in several ways, mainly acting as an appetite suppressant and fat burner.

Here’s a link to a study that supports using capsaicin to control hunger and prevent overeating: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/24630935/

And here’s a link to a study that shows the compound’s ability to support improvements in fat burning by increasing metabolism and thermogenesis: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23844093/

Phenylalanine (25 mg)

Phenylalanine is an amino acid. Food sources include eggs, meat, and fish. It serves many roles in the body including supporting the production of hormones and neurotransmitters that help regulate mood and body weight.

The dose provided here is okay but supplements that provide phenylalanine are not recommended for women who are pregnant or nursing a child. They are also unsuitable for people suffering from certain health issues including schizophrenia and phenylketonuria (PKU). (Further Reading: https://draxe.com/nutrition/phenylalanine)

Green Coffee (10 mg)

Green Coffee BeansGreen coffee bean extracts are pretty common diet pill inclusions. These unroasted beans retain their natural colour because they have not undergone the roasting process that improves the flavour of coffee and turns the beans brown.

Because they have not been roasted, green coffee beans retain a natural compound called chlorogenic acid that is purged from beans that are subjected to heat.

Chlorogenic acid used to get a lot of attention for its alleged fat-burning capabilities. Its reputation as a thermogenic fat burner has been called into question though.

Although the compound’s ability to produce favourable changes in metabolism is questionable, chlorogenic acid has value in another area.

Research shows chlorogenic acid can increase insulin sensitivity.  Its ability to do this may help ward off cravings.

After a meal or high-energy snack, blood sugar levels can rise rapidly. If they become too high, the body releases insulin to bring levels back down.

When insulin does this too efficiently, it can cause a blood sugar crash, meaning your blood sugar may even be lower than it was before you ate the food that pushed it up.

Low blood sugar invariably results in cravings for sugar and carbs because these high-energy food options are so good at pushing blood sugar levels back up.

Cravings like these are hardly diet-friendly. They can cause overeating, calorie overload, and further weight gain.

Chlorogenic acid’s ability to regulate blood sugar may prevent these cravings. However, the dose provided by Grenade Thermo Detonator is not particularly high.

Health Considerations

If you are pregnant or nursing a child, please don’t take any kind of supplement without getting clearance from your doctor first.

If you have an existing medical condition of any kind at all, it would also be unwise to use supplements without checking with your doctor first.

Certain supplement ingredients can present interaction issues when combined with medication. It doesn’t matter if the medication has been prescribed by a doctor, a dentist, or another medical professional. If you are taking medication, don’t use it with supplements without asking a doctor first.

Grenade Thermo Detonator Customer Reviews

Although there are plenty of customers complaining about side effects or stating the supplement didn’t work in the way they were hoping, the good reviews slightly outnumber the bad.

Grenade Thermo Detonator - Customer Reviews (Good and Bad)

Does Grenade Thermo Detonator Cause Side Effects?

Customer reviews show Grenade Thermo Detonator has a history of causing side effects. Even some of the positive reviews mention minor reactions such as heartburn.

If you are seriously thinking of using this supplement, I strongly suggest you discuss the matter with your doctor before doing so.

The Best Place to Buy Grenade Thermo Detonator

Grenade Thermo Detonator: A Fat Burner in a Bottle That Looks Like a Hand Grenade. If you are reading this review from within the UK, buying Grenade Thermo Detonator is not a difficult task.

It’s available from Holland & Barrett and many other supplement stores. You can also buy it via Amazon or purchase it directly from the Grenade website.

If your location is elsewhere in the world, finding a local supplier may be more difficult. In which case, it’s probably best to buy Thermo Detonator from the official site.

At the time of this review, 100 capsules cost £30. This was a significant saving on the previous price of just under £45 but Grenade does not offer free shipping so the cost per bottle is not as cheap as it first appears.

It’s also important to be aware that, when you are taking the standard dose of four capsules per day, a 100-capsule bottle will only last 25 days, not a month.

After the Sale (What Happens Next?)

Unfortunately, it’s not possible to obtain customer support via telephone. At the time of this review, the only way to contact Grenade was via the “Help” button at the bottom of the site. Selecting the button opens a pop-up Zendesk contact form. Grenade is a successful high-profile company so you can be forgiven if you find this a little disappointing.

If you are unhappy with your purchase, you won’t have the protection of a money-back guarantee and, although it seems likely customers may be able to return unopened products, I was unable to find a returns policy on the Grenade website to confirm this is so.

Grenade Thermo Detonator Review: Diet Pill Ninja Conclusion

The Diet Pill Ninja: Honorable Diet Pill ReviewsGrenade Thermo Detonator is an incredibly well-presented product produced by a reputable British company but It’s not a supplement I can recommend to visitors to this site.

Although I’m surprised the manufacturer doesn’t offer a better level of after-sales service and believe customers should be offered a money-back guarantee, my main issue with this Grenade Thermo Detonator is the inclusion of bitter orange.

I find it especially worrying to see bitter orange used alongside a dose of more than 400 mg of caffeine per day (if you take four capsules a day).

The high stimulant content may make Grenade Thermo Detonator extra appealing to people who spend a lot of time training. However, high doses of stimulants can place a strain on your body and the benefits reduce over time.

When people find stimulants stop offering the benefits they used to provide, they sometimes seek even stronger products. That’s a slippery slope.

Several non-stimulant ingredients, such as B vitamins are good for increasing energy. Grenade Thermo Detonator could be greatly improved if the bitter orange was replaced with some B vitamins and/or other alternative options.

Not only would this reduce the risk of negative issues; it would also help the supplement to go on delivering extra energy for longer.

Phentaslim: A Good Alternative to Grenade Thermo Detonator

Bottle Vegan-Friendly PhentaslimAlthough I can think of a couple of other good alternatives to Grenade Thermo Detonator, in this case I’m going to recommend Phentaslim.

Like Grenade Thermo Detonator, Phentaslim is very popular with people who like to workout because, as well as being an excellent fat burner, Phentaslim provides extra energy to help you to train.

Phentaslim costs a little more per bottle but the manufacturer does not charge extra for shipping so the cost of using the product will be similar to that of Grenade Thermo Detonator. In fact, it will be cheaper because each bottle of Phentaslim contains a 30-day supply of pills.

Like a lot of the best fat burners these days, Phentaslim is vegan-friendly but although it does not contain any worrying ingredients like bitter orange, the formulation is not stimulant-free.

Three Phentaslim capsules provide 270 mg of caffeine per day. That’s a lot less than Grenade Thermo Detonator and that 270 mg is split over three (1-capsule) servings taken at different points in the day.

Does that mean Phentaslim lacks oomph as an energy booster? Not at all. The formulation also contains several B vitamins to help you to get the most of the energy in your food. There a little ginseng in it too.

The formulation also has guarana, which provides a slow release of extra caffeine to boost energy for extended periods of time. There’s some L-theanine as well, which enhances the effects of caffeine while also offering protection against its side effects.

Like Grenade Thermo Detonator, Phentaslim provides green tea and cayenne but it has additional good natural fat burners as well. The product boasts a very sophisticated formulation that contains a natural testosterone booster and compounds that contribute to overall good health.
